Abstract

This paper is concerned with a novel way for measuring similarity between sequences of alphanumeric symbols that can potentially be DNA, RNA or protein sequences. The approach relies on finding one-to-one mappings between the sequences of symbols and a subset of R. Gaps are easily detected. Computational results and a comparison with BLAST are included.
