Despite the significant availability of energy resources in Nigeria, there remains a funda- mental problem of electricity shortage in the country’s energy sector. This deficiency is mul- ti-faceted with causes that are financial, structural, weak-human, regulatory and instituti- onal capacities and socio-political, none of which are mutually exclusive. As the population of Nigeria continue to increase rapidly and economic development calling for more demand of energy, it has become imperative to introduce certain measures in the country’s energy sector to meet her energy demands. Therefore, this article considers whether having a robust energy mix with concentration on the development of “renewable energy” resources will resolve the energy crisis in Nigeria.
