Abstract
A switched beam 60 GHz four-element microstrip antenna array is presented. Three reflection type phase shifters are used in this 2×2-element phased array to implement beam switching in two dimensions electronically through PIN diodes or MEMS in the phase shifters. Radiation and losses due to the feeding network are evaluated and their effects on the radiation pattern of the array are shown. This antenna array provides radiation pattern swing, but it is less than that expected theoretically. This is attributed to cross-polarisation field from the feed-network.
