Ästhetische Missachtung. Zur Bedeutung der Ästhetik für die kritische Theorie der Anerkennung

In this article, I defend the claim that aesthetic misrecognition denotes a distinct and hitherto overlooked variant of misrecognition. First, I develop an account of aesthetic recognition that is based on a novel interpretation of modern aesthetics. According to this account, which expands the spectrum of relations of recognition known from Hegel and Honneth, aesthetic recognition is about the consideration we owe to each other as perceiving, feeling and imaginative beings. Finally, using two case studies, I discuss whether my account of aesthetic recognition can be used to identify and criticize certain phenomena as manifestations of aesthetic misrecognition.
