Abstract
This chapter considers why mental health and well-being matters, engaging with the prevalence and causes of mental health problems and the social and economic costs of poor mental health. It considers different models of disability and mental health that have contrasting implications for how poor mental health can best be managed. Ableist workplaces are problematised as fostering discrimination and disadvantage. The chapter also reflects upon some of the interventions that might be introduced to help support the better management of mental health at work.
