Abstract
Non-line-of-sight (NLoS) wireless systems that can operate over short ranges at high data rates are becoming an essential feature of modern communications networks. The 60GHz based IEEE 802.11ad standard offers advantages of compact, high gain, antenna designs coupled with inherently high bandwidth capabilities. Such design lend themselves to incorporation into highly directional arrays capable of beam steering and beam forming that are capable of negating the harsh multi-path rich environments in which they operate. Even so, these highly complex designs can become challenged when confronted with simultaneous multi user demands. Here we describe a slotted antenna array design that operates over the IEEE 802.11.ad frequency range of 57GHz to 64GHz with a gain over this bandwidth varying from 10.98dBi to 16.8dBi. This device exhibits a quasi-discoidal radiation pattern that is therefore ideal for NLoS multi user applications.
