Abstract
This introductory chapter situates the topic of incivilities, harm and social control in the urban space and its criminology, discussing its influences, urbanity, the multidimensionality of urban space, and the specifics of urban deviant behaviour and its social control in the city. It, further, describes the context in which this book arose, explains certain choices that were made with respect to topics and perspectives included in the manuscript, and highlights the distinctiveness of this monograph, as well as the need to engage with sensory and affective dimensions of urban deviant phenomena and their social control. In the last part, the structure of the book is elucidated with a short description of the featured chapters.
