Abstract
This chapter engages with the vulnerability approach to assess UK welfare reforms implemented between 2010 and 2016, and their impact on economic and social rights. The last few years (since 2019) are not covered in the following analysis, which is divided into two sections. First, it provides a theoretical reflection of the contribution of the notion of situational vulnerability to social rights understood as the material conditions of freedom in a given community or society; and second, the chapter presents how tax and social security changes since 2010 have fuelled inequalities and harmed society, increasing the risk of abuse, discrimination and disadvantage.
