Abstract
Evaluates Nigeria's regulatory framework for preventing environmental degradation from oil and gas operations. Reviews the environmental impact of such operations, the relevant legislative regime, key regulatory bodies, and the impact of case law such as the Federal High Court ruling in Gbemre v Shell Petroleum Development Corp of Nigeria Ltd. Considers the factors contributing to enforcement difficulties and how these might be addressed.
