Abstract
This article describes the context and rationale for the use of an alternative approach to preventing HCA (Healthcare associated infections) in the Intensive Care setting. It draws upon currently available evidence on the incidence of HCAI, decontamination approaches, and the rationale for the use of octenidine containing wash mitts in intensive care units (ICUs).
