Digital games and foreign language learning: Context and future development

This chapter first provides an overview of the use of digital games in computer assisted language learning (CALL). The rationale for this volume is outlined. The authors then examine the chapters that are included in this volume. The discussion focuses on identifying key findings. In the next section, the authors explore the implications that may be drawn from these results in the context of future research and development work. They identify a number of positive findings that reflect beneficial developments in the wider research base. They also acknowledge the limitations of work in this area to date. In the closing discussion, the authors draw attention to several areas that would appear to be promising for investigation in future research studies.
