Abstract
This paper provides the first empirical analysis on the relationshipbetween domestic violence and women’s earnings in Mexico, acoun-try where research on intimate partner violence has not yet receivedmuch attention in the economic literature despite the increasing ratesin gender-based violence. An index for domestic violence isalso cre-ated, challenging the traditional dichotomous measure used within thiscontext. Findings reveal a negative and significant association betweendomestic violence and women’s earnings in Mexico for all types of in-timate partner violence and independent of the IPV measure used.
